Boston Police Honored a White Guy for Black History Month
In honor of this most recent MLK day, we’d also like to take this opportunity to recognize the white guy in like the back-left-hand-side of the March on Washington photo. He probably had to take the train and also possibly a taxi to get there.
As Boston Globe writer Nestor Ramos put it, "Do we really have to explain why honoring Red Auerbach for Black History Month was a bad idea?"
Says Ramos, "Black History Month was created to honor the accomplishments of black Americans; it is not 'Some of My Best Friends Were Black' History Month."
Boston Mayor Marty Walsh called it "completely inappropriate." The Boston Police Department later took it down.
